Pennine Canoe & Rowing Club - PCRC is with Eleri Spencer and Andrew Carden.
Great night in York tonight 4 wins and a draw followed by a windy drive home.

The two young players were particularly impressive.

Today, the River Calder in Mirfield rose to 5.4m on the Ledgard Bridge gauge - breaking the record from the legendary Boxing Day floods of 2015 - almost completely submerging shipping containers containing virtually all of Pennine Canoe & Rowing Club's soft kit and white water kayaks.

Chairman Andrew Carden and his sons Lewis and William led the way in moving things to higher ground - with the river rising alarmingly quickly - but everything got done in time and the containers appear to be staying put on the playing field.

With the main job done, attention turned to catching the debris being washed through our gate - including lots of plastics & polystyrene - all of which normally ends up perched in the trees downstream, degrading our river environment for years to come.

We've now retreated to catch up on what everyone else has been experiencing - so we've been hearing of horror stories everywhere from Halifax Canoe Club in Sowerby Bridge to our neighbours at South Pennine Boat Club - both of which suffered serious flooding.

Let's hope that it's for a very long time - and at least until we can find the funds and volunteer time to get our shipping containers mounted high on concrete block anchors!

Canal in Mirfield is a bit more challenging than normal.

For the old skool polo players the drop at the steps won't be an issue😂

Tough night last night for Pennine C a team of 6 with 3 youngsters. Loosing 3 games against teams who would be happy playing in higher leagues, Northumbria A, Kingfisher and Granite City. The young players competed well in defense, made good decisions with ball and attacked with intelligence.

The final game saw the team beat Manvers 1-0.

The plan was great - we enter teams in the Yorkshire Leagues and in the North West League and create loads of opportunities so that everone can get lots of game time - and it's been working really, REALLY well.

OK - we had one fixture clash - but that's ok as we have so many players we can easily get 12+ out at one time. OK - maybe not when everyone's dropping like flies with whatever bug is going around 😮

Despite everying, Andrew managed to field a full team in the NW league & Eleri was able to field a team in York with help from the two Jacks (Kingston, Sheffield), Jay (Greenstar) and 2-3 Leeds Mints (including AP & Ben).

Great stuff 🙂
