Open Boating

Welcome to Canoeing.

This is a growing part of the Club, we enjoy outdoor paddling just for the pleasure of it. Whether paddling down a quiet River, Canal or using your skill to navigate Lakes, open canoeing has many rewards that can be family orientated or for the solo paddler.

Canoeing gives a great prospective of the land, nature and history around you along the river and canal banks. Paddling past fields of nature only found near waterways or paddling past hidden history, such as old wool mills where canals once were our economic highways. There are lots of rewards to getting out in a Canoe. Our journeys take us on circular Canoe trails or down a river with a shuttle in between.

We have an outdoor base alongside the Rokt Climbing Gym at Sugden’s Old Flour Mill, Millroyd Street, Brighouse. Parking is available opposite the entrance or within the grounds, come and speak to our team and get introduced to Canoeing and Kayaking.
We have a number of Canadian canoes plus all the equipment you need for outdoor paddling.
In the Spring, Summer and Autumn we have a two weekly club nights on a Tuesday and Saturday. All are welcome to come along, from First Time Beginners to Skilled Canoeists. There are experienced coaches on hand to help give advice/training on all aspects of canoeing. This includes anything from Paddling Stokes, How to kit out your boat, Where to paddle and more, giving you the confidence to get out and about to enjoy Canoeing.

We have an easy 1.5mile journey with sections of flat and moving water with two weirs using both the River Calder and Calder Navigation, Great for beginners or an evening’s trip.
The paddling we do throughout the year includes;
Day trips down rivers such as the Calder, Wharfe, Derwant, Esk, Ure, Kent, Greta and Irwell, also we have camping weekend trips to Wales, North Yorkshire and the coast.
