Sprint racing takes place on a straight course. The races are 200m, 500m, and 1000m. These races normally take place in lanes and in many cases have heats which lead to the semi-final and final, depending on numbers.
Races are for Kayaks and Canoes and can be single(K1/C1), two-man(K2/C2), or even four-man(K4/C4), and are separated by age and sex. There are 5 national regattas held at the National WaterSports Centre in Nottingham throughout the summer. Points are awarded for each race and accumulated through the season.
This is an Olympic discipline and “Team GB” has won a number of medals from World Championships and Olympic events. Even if you are not paddling, this is quite a spectacle to go and watch.
We regularly meet at The Ship Inn, Mirfield on Sunday mornings at 10:00 for training sessions (except on race days) and additionally some weekday evenings during B.S.T. (days/times to be advised).
